Your Labour Team: Paul Baker & Bob Gibson
There has never been a more important local election than the 5th May – with our council facing 28% cuts, now more than ever before Newtown ward needs a strong voice incouncil to make sure it is not overlooked when resources are so scarce. Bob Gibson and Paul Baker are well qualified to do just that.
As the public sector comes under further attack we will be at the forefront in the fight against the cuts in the fire service, the police, the health service and local government spending.
Locally we will work to ensure that critical local services like refuse collection, street cleansing, job creation and the special services to young and old alike are protected. In recent years the Labour led council delivered services of the highest quality which added value to the lives of the most vulnerable. At long last we are seeing changes in the High Street which we can all be proud of: the redevelopment of The Globe, the enterprise shopping arcade and the planned environment improvements.
Much more needs to be done and Bob and Paul will be working hard to make sure it happens.
A strong, experienced team to work for Newtown
Paul Baker
Paul has lived in the Newtown area for 28 years and as your councillor for 12 years. Living in the ward helps him keep in touch with problems that may occur and deal with them before they escalate. Education, health and community development are Paul's main interests and he has served as a school governor at Oaktree primary school. If reelected, he promises to work hard for Newtown and remain dedicated to you.
Bob Gibson
Bob has represented you for 28 years, lives in the ward and is still very much involved in the Newtown Community. He was long term Leader of the Council.
He is a founder of "Know How North East" a community enterprise that has helped find jobs for over 400 people and trained hundreds more.
Bob, if re-elected, looks forward to continuing his service for the community.
