Chris, Clare & Lauriane working hard for you in Billingham North
We are delighted to have been selected as you Labour Candidates for Billingham North ward. Chris and Lauriane have served as your councillors since 2015 and have been joined by longstanding community activist and Billingham Town Council member, Claire Gamble, to make up the Billingham North Labour team.
These are difficult days for our community. Due to Tory cuts, we are seeing our Council forced to make cuts to its services; and our region unfairly hit by austerity.
That’s why we need a strong Labour Council dedicated to maintaining the best possible services and putting forward a positive vision and agenda for the entire Stockton-on-Tees Borough; that puts the wellbeing of our children and older people first; and defends you against Tory cuts.
Please vote for us on 2nd May—thank you.
Clare Gamble, Chris Barlow & Lauriane Povey
We stand on the basic principle of getting the best possible deal for Billingham North. We will continue to influence behind scenes to ensure we keep getting our fair share of resources, whilst also protecting services for the most vulnerable and limiting Council tax rises.
Since 2015 we have produced regular newsletters, been active on Facebook and proactively door knocked across the ward – we pledge to maintain this open, honest and accessible approach.
There is a real benefit of voting for Councillors who actually live in the local area – we all do!
- We see issues with our own eyes and respond quickly.
- We take pride in keeping our area clean and tidy, free from vandalism and graffiti.
- We know the history, understand what can be achieved with ambition and hard work, and don’t make false promises.
- We will continue to plant bulbs, undertake regular litter picks, host community events, develop new environmental projects, improve playgrounds and represent our ward at meetings when funding allocations are made.
As a lifelong Billingham resident, I have always been passionate about improving our town. Over recent years I have been involved with local community organisations such as the Foodbank and Help Through Crisis – a joint venture between Billingham Foodbank and Stockton District Advice and Information Service.
I am currently working as a volunteer Youth Worker in Billingham and so bring a wealth of experience and enthusiasm for working with young people.
Chris has lived in Billingham North most of my life and was first elected to his home ward in 2015. Chris is married with three daughters who attend St Paul’s Primary School and St. Michael’s, and balances Councillor duties with a career in economic and social research where he develop business plans and evaluate the impact of investments across the UK.
This outward looking perspective informs his ambition of what can be achieved in our area. In his free time he plays cricket for Billingham Synthonia and enjoys walking the dog regardless of the weather.
Lauriane has lived in Billingham for most of her life and is proud to have represented Billingham North since 2015. Lauriane has recently graduated from Durham University and works in a programme management office within the civil service, as well as being a published author.
If elected, Lauriane will continue to be involved in organising local history community events, promoting issues that affect Billingham residents and responding quickly to resident queries.
Lauriane will also continue working towards ensuring the local area is a good place for young people to grow up and provides quality employment opportunities.
